A disapproved product is invisible on Google Shopping, so disapprovals directly cost sales. The good news: almost all of them fall into four buckets, and each has a clear fix.
1. Price or availability mismatch
This is the single most common disapproval. Google crawls your BigCommerce landing page and compares it to the feed. If the price or stock status differs, even briefly during a sale, the product is disapproved for "mismatch".
Fix: keep the feed identical to the storefront. A real-time sync is the reliable cure, a once-a-day feed almost guarantees mismatches during price changes. Make sure currency and sale price are sent correctly.
2. Missing or invalid GTIN
If Google expects a GTIN for a branded product and it's missing or wrong, the item is disapproved or limited.
Fix: send the correct manufacturer GTIN. For products that genuinely have none, set identifier_exists = false and provide a brand and MPN. See the feed setup guide for how identifiers should be structured.
3. Image problems
Placeholder images, watermarks, promotional text on the image, or images that are too small get disapproved.
Fix: use a clean, high-resolution main image on a plain background with no overlaid text or logos. Keep additional images for extra angles.
4. Policy and account-level issues
Missing returns or shipping policy, no visible contact information, or unverified domain can disapprove your whole account.
